Students wishing to be considered for Choraliers will be adjudicated on the following criteria:
Singing (32 bar selection) x1
Sightreading (both rhythmic and melodic) and Aura Skill Assessment x2
Singing with the group to determine blend, balance, and tone x1
2 Letters of Reference x1
The students will sing their 32 bar song on Wednesday, Jan 21, 2026 3:30 PM which will be videotaped. The videotapes will then go to five expert choral teachers who will assess the singing using a rubric (example included). There will be a sign-up genius for you to register for an audition time.
Students will read a rhythm and melody which will be videotaped. Dr. Younse will assess this performance using a rubric.
Students will sing various melodic patterns after hearing them played on the piano. This audition will be videotaped. Dr. Younse will assess this performance using a rubric.
Applicants will each sing a short excerpt with members of the current Choraliers. This audition will be taped. This will be assessed by Dr. Younse using a rubric. January 26, 2026 7:30-8:30.
You need to ask 2 adults who know your maturity and level of skill as a student to complete the reference form. I must have the names and email addresses for each reference by January 9.
Singing- adjudicators will watch each 32 bar song and complete the Singing Rubric which is part of a Google Form. The 5 adjudicator scores will be added to form the final Singing Score.
Sightreading/Aural Skills/Blending- Dr. Younse will score each of these criterion using a separate rubric. There will be a Sightreading Score, an Aural Skills score, and Blending score.
The final score for each applicant will consist of the composite singing score total x1, Sightreading score x2, Aural Skills score X2, Blending Score x1, Reference x1 (2 references). These seven scores will be added to identify the singer’s final score.
Selection
Dr. Younse will run the final scores by section (S,A,T,B) and determine the ranking for each. The highest score(s) in SA and TB will be chosen.
Print a copy of the score and then use the recordings to learn your part. This is the song you will sing with the existing Choraliers.
