All students enrolled in Band, Choir, Jazz Dancers, Orchestra, or Theatre are eligible to audition for a vocal feature and a speaking part in Pops ‘n Jazz ‘27.
We truly value your time and effort in preparing these auditions. Please recognize that in a group so large, not every person who auditions can be offered a featured vocal or speaking role.
Starting October 19th, you will find a Google Form on the Choir Website (www.hallhighchoirs.net). Fill it out and follow the instructions on how to upload your video. Submit your audition by Tuesday, November 3rd.
If we need to hear more from certain students, callback auditions will be held in person after school in the choir room on Tuesday, December 1st. Please bring your song and accompaniment recording if you are on the callback list which will be posted to the PnJ classroom by Wednesday November 25th at 12:45 pm.
Attached to this post are all the instructions to submit and the speaking audition material. Please let us know if you have any questions!
We can’t wait to hear all your amazing performances!

Emcee and Featured Speaker Sides
Read each of these sides with enthusiasm and energy. If you are also submitting a
vocal performance audition, please send your speaking portion in the same video as
your song. Remember, you need to read both asides. Make them interesting.
SIDE 1
“Good evening ladies and gentlemen, and welcome to tonight's performance. We have
a great evening of music planned that spans decades and styles including classic
musical theater, grammy award winning R&B and of course plenty of jazz. In our
opening number Steven Sondheim writes “The art of making art, is putting it together.”
and there is something very unique indeed about how we put things together here at
Hall.In our first set, we are taking you behind the scenes to trace the process of creating
Pops ‘n Jazz. As you all settled into your seats this evening, we brought you the sights
and sounds of a typical rehearsal. Speaking of rehearsal, concert jazz band, the
choraliers, jazz dancers, jazz ensemble and tech students have dedicated countless
combined hours working on this show in our individual ensembles and as a group. As
special as the performances are, we only spend a fraction of that time in front of an
audience. The rehearsal room is what Pops ‘n Jazz is all about. On any given day, that
rehearsal room includes over 100 Hall students and another 30 middle and elementary
students. It is truly amazing to see all those moving parts come together on this stage
for all of you.”
SIDE 2
“Why would Andy want you?! Look at you! You’re a Buzz Lightyear! Any other toy
would give up his moving parts just to be you. You’ve got wings, you glow in the dark,
you talk, your helmet does that whoosh thing! You are a cool toy! As a matter of fact,
you’re too cool. I mean what chance does a toy like me have against a Buzz Lightyear
action figure? All I can do is... ‘There’s a snake in my boots!’ Why would Andy ever want
to play with me, when he’s got you?”
